Those of you who visit my blog regularly may have recently visited to find that my blog was gone, and it was.
Can you imagine the paniced expression on my face when I realised my blog had been sucked into cyber space. The months of hard work creating valuable content and building a loyal following flashed before my eyes. It was like a bad movie but it was real. I had never backed up my blog.
Not being one to panic I calmly rang my web hosting service who gave me some technical, jargon filled explanation of the problem and said they would get right onto it. Anyway I waited about two hours and checked but the url just sent me to a dead end. I checked a few more times that evening but still nothing.
I was now starting to panic. The reality and the gravity of the situation was now starting to hit me. Needless to say I didn’t go to bed in a positive mood that night but hoped things may be different in the morning.
The next morning I woke and immediately turned my computer on to check the status. I typed in my blog url and wham there it was. I was so relieved because I really thought I had lost it for sure. This time it was a lucky escape but next time I may not be so lucky so just in case I’m not I have already put steps in place to ensure my sites get backed up regularly.
Are you backing up your sites?

Hey Chris.
Thanks for the post, an important lesson there. Just on that topic though, who do we talk to in regards to backing up our blog? Do we talk to the hosts of our blog, HostGator etc??
Thanks
