Website popularity is critical for getting ranked in the search engines and getting your content noticed. Simply put if your site is not popular your content will not rank in the search engines, your not going to get noticed and your not going to get any traffic.

Website popularity is measured by two key factors, the number of sites linking into to your site and the popularity of those sites linking into your site. If you understand this principle you will realise that the only way to increase your website popularity is to generate backlinks.

Business Directory Listings

There are literally 1000’s of online website and business directories. Each directory will require you to complete an online form outlining the details of your business including your website address. On completion of the form your business will be listed and a safe, relevant backlink to your website will be created automatically. There are several tools and services online that will post your website to 1000’s of directories. To ensure your backlinks are safe only post your sites to the directories every 3 months. Any more and you could be seen as a spammer and have your listings removed.

Article Directories

Another good way to create safe, relevant backlinks is to harness the powerful backlink opportunity that article marketing creates. I use article marketing to generate over 300 backlinks to my site every day. When you write an article first post it to your website or blog. Next post different versions of the article to free article directories. Article directories allow you to create an author resource box or signature box for every article you submit. In most cases, your resource box is allowed to include up to two backlinks, so use the box wisely and always direct one of those links back to the original, relevant content on your site.  Some article directories will also allow you to place backlinks to your website inside an article. Forum Signatures

Forum signatures are similar to article directory resource boxes. Most forums do not allow you to include backlinks in the content of your posting however you can usually create two or three backlinks in your signature box. Simply post a discussion, comment or contribute to a discussion in the forums and your signature box is automatically posted below your comment.

Video Posts

Every time you create content for your website a simple strategy to create safe relevant backlinks to your content is to make a promotional video and post it to video sites like you tube and metacafe.  Video sites allow you to post a description of the video. Always start the description with a backlink to the relevant content on your site. I post to over 20 video sites every day.

Social Networks

Social networks like myspace, facebook and twitter allow you to post status updates. You can use this feature to broadcast messages advising of updates to your website or blog and include a backlink to the content you are broadcasting about.

Social Bookmarking
